- Bone Health: B12 supports bone health and potentially reduces the risk of osteoporosis.

Who might be at risk for a B12 deficiency?
Many people can become B12 deficient within the UK, this deficeny is commonly seen in people over 50 years of age, as their gut can sometimes struggle to absorb B12. People following a strict vegan or vegetarian diet also suffer with B12 deficiency due to the fact B12 comes from animal products, B12 supplements are recommended for people who eat a vegan diet or a vegetarian one with few eggs and dairy products. Pregnant women can sometimes find their B12 levels tend to dip during pregnancy and return to normal after delivery. A prenatal vitamin should include B12, but since it is a key nutrient during pregnancy (contributing to fetal development, among other things), pregnant women who are vegan or have another reason to suspect a deficiency should talk to their doctor.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about Vitamin B12
Cyanocobalamin is a manufactured version of vitamin B12. It works by increasing the levels of vitamin B12 in your blood.
You need vitamin B12 to stay healthy. It's used to make red blood cells and keep your nervous system healthy.
Having enough vitamin B12 allows your body to make red blood cells that work properly to carry oxygen around your body.
If you've been diagnosed with low vitamin B12 levels, taking cyanocobalamin helps reduce symptoms such as tiredness and lack of energy or being short of breath.
Vitamin B12 supplements will only improve symptoms such as tiredness and lack of energy if they're caused by low vitamin B12 levels.
Our cyanocobalamin tablets come in strengths of 50 micrograms (mcg) and 1,000 micrograms. The amount of cyanocobalamin you need depends on the level of vitamin B12 in your blood and why your levels are low. Your doctor or pharmacist can advise you on what dose to take.
For adults with diet-related vitamin B12 deficiency, the usual dose is 50 micrograms to 150 micrograms, taken once a day. For adults with vitamin B12 deficiency not caused by your diet, the usual dose is one to two 1,000 microgram tablets, taken once or twice a day. This is usually if you cannot have vitamin B12 injections. In children, the doses may be lower. If you're taking supplements that you've bought, follow the dosage instructions that come with them.
Swallow cyanocobalamin tablets whole with a drink of water. Do not chew or break them. It's usually best to take the tablets on an empty stomach. This means at least 2 hours after a meal or snack and at least 30 minutes before you eat again.
Your doctor or pharmacist will advise you how long you need to take cyanocobalamin tablets.
You may be able to stop taking it when your vitamin B12 blood levels are back to normal.
However, you may need to take it for the rest of your life if your diet does not have enough vitamin B12 or you cannot absorb enough vitamin B12 from your food.
It may take a few weeks before your vitamin B12 levels and symptoms (such as extreme tiredness or lack of energy) start to improve.
It's OK to take cyanocobalamin if you're breastfeeding.
Vitamin B12 (including cyanocobalamin) is a natural part of breast milk. Cyanocobalamin does pass into breast milk, but it's unlikely to cause any side effects in your baby.
If you notice that your baby is not feeding as well as usual, or if you have any other concerns about your baby, talk to your midwife, health visitor, doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible.

Still not sure if B12 is right for you?
The Benefits of Taking Vitamin D and B12 Together
Vitamin D and Vitamin B12each play crucial roles in maintaining good health. Vitamin D, often called the “sunshine vitamin,” helps the body absorb calcium, supporting strong bones and teeth. It is also vital for immune function, as it enhances the body’s defence against infections. Due to modern lifestyles with limited sun exposure, many people are at risk of Vitamin D deficiency, particularly during winter months or in regions with limited sunlight.
