Taking SunVit-D3 has been shown to strengthen bones and reduce the risk of fractures in osteoporosis sufferers as it increases the absorption of calcium. Individuals who are at a higher risk of bone diseases such as osteoporosis or rickets will need to ensure that calcium in their diet is effectively absorbed to improve bone health, therefore, ensuring high vitamin D3 levels is essential. The link between vitamin D levels and skeletal health has long been recognised as an issue for osteoporosis sufferers.
Vitamin D and calcium are indispensable for the maintenance of bone mass and integrity. Vitamin D deficiency is a significant risk factor for a decrease in bone mineral density which leads to osteoporosis. Studies have shown that a daily intake of 1000 IU vitamin D3 will reduce the risk of osteoporotic related fractures by more than 20-30%. Additionally research has concluded that bone mineral density correlates positively with 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations well above 100 nmol/L. (15)
Having sufficient blood serum levels of 25 hydroxyvitamin (25(OH)D) helps to promote calcium absorption, therefore improving bone density and reducing the risk of fractures among osteoporosis sufferers.
A separate study demonstrated how optimal levels of vitamin D3 affect calcium absorption: The absorption of calcium correlates positively with 25-Hydroxyvitamin D concentrations up to and above 80 nmol/L.(14)
Individuals who are at a higher risk of bone diseases such as osteoporosis or rickets will greatly benefit from the preventative properties of SunVit-D3. Taking vitamin D3 supplements at 1000IU has been shown to strengthen bones and reduce the risk of fractures in osteoporosis sufferers.
Each year, 1 in 3 adults age 65 and older experience at least 1 fall with approximately 6% resulting in a fracture.
Research has found that a high dose vitamin D3 supplement of between 700 and 1,000 IUs per day reduced falls in senior individuals by 26%.(16)(17) The beneficial effect was significant within two to five months of starting treatment, extended beyond 12 months, and was independent of age, type of dwelling, or additional calcium supplementation.
The study, published in the Oct. 2 online edition of BMJ, concluded that all people aged 65 and older should take at least 700 to 1,000 IU of supplemental vitamin D a day to reduce the risk of falling.
The risk of falls and fractures can be halved by increasing 25-Hydroxyvitamin D levels to above 80 to 100 nmol/L. (16)(17) One SunVit-D3 tablet contains 1000IU of vitamin D3 which is sufficient to maintain 80 to 100nmol/L blood serum levels when taking on a daily basis.
